Yes, it’s a fact. The older you get, the faster time flies. I just found out that there have been MANY changes made to my school (Assunta) that I wasn’t aware of.
Firstly, and the most major one:
Our school’s sports houses’ used to be called Assunta, Clare, Francis and Hermine. Well, apparently they have been re-named to Wira, Samudera, Buana and Suria! Doesn’t that sound just awful?? After years and years of shouting “Go, Assunta, go!” (Yes, I was in the Assunta house), we now have to get used to shouting, “Go, Wira, go!”. Well, I guess Wira doesn’t sound as bad as Buana! Hmm, I actually have no idea what that means.
Secondly, the prefects’ uniform in Assunta used to be brown and white (because our school colors were brown and white). Well, they’ve now been changed to navy blue with maroon ties. What significance does navy blue and maroon have to Assunta?
Anyway, I was signing the petition to object over these changes, and one of the questions was “What year did you leave the school?”. And I had absolutely NO idea! I had to count backwards…working 2 years…studied in uni 3 years…Taylor’s 1 year…and only then could I remember what year I had left school!
So yes..time really flies. I remember at one time, there was talk about changing our school’s name from SMK Assunta to SMK Jalan Changgai (the road that our school was on). Thankfully, some people protested and that was the end of that. What would the point be in changing the school’s name??
In one way, our ministers are doing the same thing, when they change the names of streets/towns, etc. around Malaysia. It kind of makes me sad…we’re losing part of our history. I mean, these were people who had done things for Malaysia, to make us what we are today.
However, each time I say anything about this, my dad goes, “Well, if it weren’t for the changes, my grandfather wouldn’t have a road in Ipoh named after him. (BTW, for those of you who know Ipoh, it’s Jalan Lam Loo King.)”
Anyway, enough philosophy…sign the petition, people!

yeah sae! i also signed the petition a few weeks ago. crazy lah! the ppl who change all these obviously have no assunta spirit. of courselah, i bet they’re non x-assuntarians….prob came from some chekaiii school at god knows where…haha. n pls! if they nak change the name pon….why Wira, Samudera, Buana and Suria? sheeeeshhh. wonder wht sister enda’s got to say for all this…
