Yesterday, I was reading some articles in the Star’s online paper. There was one particular article that caught my eye, entitled “Play Negaraku in cinemas“. Yes, it is exactly like the title of the article.
The Information Ministry wants Malaysian citizens to gain more respect towards the Negaraku national anthem, and one of the ways they plan on doing it is to encourage all cinemas to play Negaraku before screening the movie, so that all movie-goers can sing it!
Personally, I don’t think that’s such a great idea. Who on earth is actually going to do it? Too bad the TGV GM actually says that they would comply with it, if it actually is implemented. I think it would just result in everyone coming in late for the movie/taking toilet breaks/not singing at all! And instead of being more patriotic, it would just show how Malaysians really couldn’t care less about singing the national anthem in cinemas. Aren’t there any better ways to encourage patriotism?
