When I was much younger, I read this book called What Katy Did by Susan Coolidge. There was this part where Katy broke one of her shoe-laces, and after a series of incidents, ended up hurting her back really badly, and she was bed-ridden for a long time. Her father told her this:
“For the want of a nail the shoe was lost;
For the want of a shoe the horse was lost;
For the want of a horse the battle was lost;
For the failure of battle the kingdom was lost;—
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.”
It showed that just because of the loss of one nail in a horse shoe, the kingdom was lost. So because of one small little thing, there were huge consequences.
Well, here’s my horse shoe story. Due to the upcoming wedding, my parents decided to repaint our electric gate because it was looking a little shabby. It’s a Chinese tradition where the bride and groom will visit both the parent-in-laws and serve tea to them. It shows respect to the in-laws, or something like that. I guess my parents wanted our house to look nice for the tea ceremony.
Anyway, my Dad bought the paint, and asked the maid to repaint the gate. He chose the paint by taking a digital photo of our gate and showing it to the paint salesman. The guy gave my dad one tin and said that it might not look like the same colour at first, but after a few days, it would darken. So, my maid started painting. I came back from somewhere, and got a shock! This is what my gate looked like.

In case it isn’t already obvious, the bright orange was the new colour! Anyway, after my whole family saw it and said it looked awful, we decided to re-paint the gate again! So, my poor maid started scraping off the orange paint. The next day, I came home for lunch and she was still scraping. It was also not completely dry yet, so we opened one side of the electric gate for people to walk in and out.
After lunch, I was walking out of the house, and I called my mum to close the electric gate. I THOUGHT she would close it after I went out, but she closed it straight away. For some reason, I got it in my head that I had to make it out before the door closed, so I started running out.
Of course, running in heels and an office skirt is never a very good idea. I made it out before the gate closed, but I tripped and fell on the concrete ouside my gate. My knee got all scraped up and it looked all white. It was kind of cool because it didn’t hurt yet, but I knew that slowly all the blood would come out and start dripping. I drove back to the office, and as I drove, it got redder and redder. After work, I came back home and took a photo.

It’s been about five days since then, and now it’s all brown and scabby. Still pretty gross, and it hurts when I walk! I posted up a picture of the scar four days later, but it totally grossed out my darling school friends, so I guess it’s too horrible for other people to see! According to my very oldest friend, she says this: “shit wei, i can see red, brown and yellow!” For those of you who know me, you can check out the picture in the password protected post above…the secret is…what my group of friends used to call ourselves in high school.
So, my conclusion is because of the wedding, my electric gate got repainted, and because of that, I fell down and hurt my knee! And so ends my horse-shoe story…
