A Wedding to Remember

The past few weeks have been supremely hectic for my family, there were so many things to do to prepare for my brother’s wedding!

Anyway, as you may know, I was requested to play Canon in D on the violin for the wedding, as the bride came down the aisle. I practised a couple of times with the keyboardist, and we were ready for the big day, or so we thought. Two days before the wedding, my brother received a call from the keyboardist, saying that she couldn’t make it anymore, as she was just offered a pretty important job on that day.

Panic time! He called lots of people, trying to find a replacement, and finally managed to get one of his friends to agree to do it. Keyboardist No 2 came over at about midnight, and we practised together. After the practice, as Keyboardist No 2 was leaving, he said to my brother, “Make sure you have the CD ready just in case.” So, I asked what was the CD for … apparently Keyboardist No 2 ALSO had something on, and wasn’t sure whether he would be able to make it in time. If he couldn’t, I would be accompanied by the CD! Well, of course, I wasn’t too happy with that. So, on the day before the wedding, we went looking for Keyboardist No 3! My mum managed to get one of her friends to agree to play, and I took half day off work, and went to her house to practise. It went pretty well, so that was a load off my mind.

On the actual day, things went really smoothly. It was held at the garden of Palace of the Golden Horses, which was a gorgeous setting for their wedding. I guess lots of guests found it interesting, there were small crowds standing around and watching, and some watching from their balconies as well. One guy even took out his video camera and started recording! Check out their website for lots of mini-stories, their wedding video, and lots more. After the reception was the buffet dinner. The food was pretty good, but the highlight for me was their wedding singer, Sharizan. He and his band did two sets of jazzy music, and he was really good! Haha, I was so impressed that I bought his CD the very next day!

There were a couple of things that I found really cool. The first thing that was done was the releasing of doves by my brother and sis-in-law. My dad had scouted around a few days beforehand to find two white doves. Did you know that apparently doves do not fly well? Anyway, he was recommended to take two white pigeons instead. The releasing of birds symbolises freedom, and love…or something like that. One bird took off immediately after being released, and was lost from sight. The other one, seemed to be a bit lost, and fluttered around. At one stage, I actually thought it was going to bang into the hotel windows and drop dead! It finally landed on someone’s balcony, and then just sat there for the rest of the time. Secondly, when the couple came in again, each table had candles and sparklers. Everyone was told to light up their sparklers, so the whole garden was aglow from the light of the sparklers. Really looked good!

Halfway through the dinner, the emcee suddenly made an announcement that if there was a doctor around, to please make their way to the front as there was a small emergency. I looked over, and my uncle had fainted! I wanted to go over and see what was happening, but there was already a small crowd around him, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to help anyway, so I just waited for news. Apparently, he had just drunk some wine, when he went pale, and just fainted. There were a few doctors in the crowd, and they said that his pulse was really slow, so an ambulance was called for precautionary measures. Turned out he was OK, just a little dehydrated.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I met one of my ex-colleagues at the dessert table. I was kind of surprised at her appearance, she looked pretty big…I wondered if she was pregnant, which would have been a HUGE shock, cos she just gave birth to her second child about 4 months ago! I didn’t say anything, just chatted with her for awhile, then T came over, and said, “So, you’re expecting No. 3?” I thought to myself, “Oh no, what if she’s NOT pregnant, just retaining her weight after the pregnancy?” I started pinching him to make him shut up…but my ex-colleague just laughed and said, “You’ll see!” That totally made me think she was expecting again! Anyway, I read her blog a few days later, turns out she was NOT pregnant, just her clothes made her look big. Hehe, she said that about SIX people asked her the same question.

More stories on the Melaka wedding dinner soon!
