Work blues

It’s the start of yet another work week. All my colleagues in my room have gone off to a seminar, and it’s super quiet, and not inspiring to do work. I’ve promised myself to update my blog (otherwise Eel will start bugging me so that she has something to read!) and then to continue on with work. It’s been pretty quiet on the blog-front recently, I’ve just been too lazy to write stuff. Shows that I’m not a true blue blogger!

Let’s see…what have I been up to?

I’ve been meeting with a few..unit trust saleswomen? Is that what you call them? Anyway, it’s an alternate way of investing your money. I’ve been feeling that my money sitting in a fixed deposit isn’t really doing much, at the end of the month, I only get a few dollars in interest. So, I’ve talked to two different ones over the past couple of weeks. They can be really persuasive, one of them was telling me that I’m so young, if I invest 90,000 now, by the time I’m 55, at a conservative interest rate, I can make 1 million! Whereas if I leave that same amount in a fixed deposit, I’ll only get 300,000 +. They were showing all their client profiles, and how in a few months, they all made 10% – 20% profit. It made me feel like withdrawing all my money straightaway and investing it in unit trusts!

I’ve always been interested in investing my money into something, at one time, I thought it might be purchasing a house or a condo and renting it out. I looked around my area because I think it’s the best place to live when I move out of my parents’ house. All the houses that were for sale were either near the main roads or shops, or waay over my budget. So now, I’m considering the unit trusts instead. I suppose I have to really think about it, and pray to see if it’s the right step for me.

OK, the main reason why I want to invest in something? :) My cost of living seems to be going up, sad..but true. This month, with my Singapore trip expenses, car insurance, new contact lenses for 1 year, and many other miscellaneous expenses, I find myself so broke!! Oh, and I’ve also discovered the joy of eBay-ing, no thanks to one of my friends.

I was whining about one of my PS2 games, Rogue Galaxy. Everytime I played it, it kept hanging at a certain point. My friend Googled it, and apparently it’s some problem with it being a dual-layered game, blah blah blah…it got too technical for me. Hehe..anyway, he suggested I buy it from eBay, which I did. Once I was on eBay, I started searching for other stuff, and I was hooked!

Most of the things I’ve been buying are books, especially Chalet School books. I was a HUGE fan of Chalet School when I was a small kid, I still enjoy them now. So, I’ve been eBaying around, and picking up the books that I don’t have. The first time I bid on a book, I got really carried away (my PS2 game was Buy Now, so I hadn’t bid on anything before). I actually went up to about 12 pounds for the book! Luckily I didn’t win it, I don’t know what I was thinking about. Anyway, I’ve managed to buy about 5 so far, perhaps I can finish my collection soon!

Ah…the bliss of eBay…
