Drama at Taman Seputeh

A couple of weeks ago, my grandmother was admitted to Damansara Specialist Hospital because she was complaining of a heart pain. It turned out to be nothing serious, but the events that arose out of that were astonishing!

While she was in hospital, her two maids stayed at my auntie’s house. During their time there, my auntie complained that the two of them did nothing but play with heir handphones and send SMSes out. One of them, in particular, was very unmanageable, and because of this, my family decided to send her back to Indonesia.

She was not told about it, my auntie just brought her to the agency, because we didn’t want her to beg my grandmother to let her stay, and cause my grandmother any further worries. At the agency, the owner started interrogating her about where she obtained the phone, how she got the money to pay the bills, etc. And here’s when all the stories started tumbling out!

Apparently, there’s some sort of a gang in Taman Seputeh. The men give all the maids handphones, and the maids will steal money and jewellery from the houses and give it to the men. It’s not just the maids at my grandmother’s house, a few others are involved as well! Over the years, the maids have stolen quite a bit from my grandmother, apparently they even obtained the combination to her safe. So, obviously we had to send the second maid back as well, since she was involved in this whole hoopla. That was on Day 1.

The next day, when I came back from work, my mum had even more to tell me. She said that the older maid had been letting a man stay in her room for the past two years!! He didn’t stay there all the time, on and off. This story came from my auntie’s maid. All the other maids were threatened by my grandmother’s maid not to say anything about this, otherwise the man would go and find their families in Indonesia and harm them. Since the maid was sent back to Indonesia, my auntie’s maid felt safe enough to tell us. That was Day 2…

Now, the next day, when I came back from work, I asked my mum again what new stories there were, jokingly, since I thought that no way could there be more. But what do you know? There WERE more stories. Not only was it a “stealing” centre, it was a PROSTITUTION centre too! The two maids had been entertaining all sorts of men, from construction workers to postmen. After the maids went back, my aunties were cleaning out the rooms, and they found the appointment book of one of the maids. In it, she had written all her appointments with men, and in one night, she could service up to five men!!

We were absolutely shocked. The things that those two maids had been getting up to under my grandmother’s nose! Thank God that she was safe and nothing had happened to her. It really makes you wonder, whether it’s worth having a maid nowadays or not.
