Happy 29th of February!

This day only rolls around once in four years, so it has to be remembered in my blog! Some reflections about the date.

  • For people that are born on the 29th of February, do they celebrate their birthday during non-leap years on Feb 28th, or Mar 1st? I imagine that they like being born on the 29th, it makes them special. I like telling people that the area code on my IC is 71, and they always ask me, ‘Where were you born??’
  • Are there any systems that are built where people never considered the 29th of Feb? I got my office season parking yesterday, and tried it out today. But it didn’t work. Coincidence? Probably…

In other news, Malaysia is gearing up for elections, as the big date draws near. It’s been pretty interesting, probably because I wasn’t eligible to vote during the last elections. You need to be registered 6 months before the elections, and I was in Australia at that time. Do you know where you’re voting yet? You can check it out here. I got the school right behind my house, it’s going to be a breeze to get there. :D

Chew Mei Fun is organizing some sort of official opening for the Multi-Purpose court near my house tonight. Supposedly, there is going to be a Lion Dance, or something like that. It might be interesting to pop by and see what she has to say. The candidate that is running against her will be Tony Pua. I’ve been reading his blog occasionally ever since a friend of mine mentioned that he may be the one opposing Chew Mei Fun. I must say, I’ve been quite impressed with the things that he talks about (posts from awhile ago, the recent ones are just about the elections!), although a lot of his economic posts are way above my head!

Yesterday, as I was watching American Idol, there was this advert shown during the break. It features a few different people, talking about Malaysia and how it’s become a better place. One statement that really cracked me up was from an Indian guy saying, “Malaysia has become so much safer. I feel safe walking around at night.”. I wonder where he’s staying? Perhaps in some high-security condo. Who do they think they’re fooling with these statements? We’re not stupid. At least tell us something more believable than that!

When all is said and done, I hope that at the end of the elections, we end up with good leaders, not those just that can talk, but can also do the walk.
